Duties and responsibilities: Emergency Medical Technician must answer emergency calls and be able to provide efficient and immediate care to the injured. They also have to transfer the patient to the nearest hospital on the most efficient path possible. Emt’s know the basics of medicine to keep the patient alive and stable on the way to the hospital. They must also create a patient care report so the emergency doctors at the hospital will be able to help the patient as fast as they can. Emts work in pairs in the ambulance when there is an emergency.
Salary: $29,000-$40,000
Education: High School Diploma, Must go through the approved training programs at the appropriate level, Emt’s must also have a state license
Demand for this profession: More and more emergencies cause the job to be demanded more (growing by 24%)
Reflection: Do you think you would like to become one? Why? Why not? I would not like to become and EMT because it is job that requires you to work extremely well under the intense pressure and stress they go through each day. I would rather be a regular doctor and be able to provide care to the patients in a much safer and controlled setting where the equipment is not just the basics of medicine.
